Art & Design
At Green Oaks we believe art at its best should be both ‘intellectually challenging and creatively demanding’. Our Art and Design curriculum is taught through our a thematic approach to enable our children to develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes that they will need to participate fully in a globalised society and economy. Our global themes of Environment & Sustainability and Identify & Diversity provide further opportunity for children to apply learning in real and relevant contexts.
In partnership with Hampshire we follow the National Curriculum which aims to ensure all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
We intend for them to understand the the links and connections between ideas, making and evaluating art at a local and global level. Our aim is to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and produce creative contributions in their own works of art, craft and design. Our children will understand how to think critically and know that art and design both reflect and shape our history and contributes to the culture and creativity of their own and wider community.
