Religious Education

At Green Oaks we are committed to learning for life.  We understand that our children live in an ever changing world and that they will need the skills and attributes to be part of a global community.

The aim of RE is to foster in pupils a reflective approach to life and enable and enrich this process through their study of living faiths, acknowledging the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, and taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in the country. Through this approach we aim to help children develop understanding, empathy and respect the right of people to hold and practise beliefs different from their own.

 Aims:

  • develop children’s skills, concepts and attitudes as identified in the Agreed Hampshire Syllabus.
  • promote reflection, empathy, comprehension, investigation, interpretation and analysis.
  • develop skills in respect and tolerance through exploring a variety of World Religions, opinions and beliefs
  • foster attitudes such as curiosity, open-mindedness, self understanding, respect, wonder and appreciation, as these are fundamental to a fair minded study of religions and spiritual dimensions of human life.

At Green Oaks , our RE curriculum is taught through the Hampshire syllabus Living Difference V, using a 5 step cycle to embed RE knowledge led through a concept based approach. This enables our children to develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes that they will need to participate fully in a globalised society and economy.  We intend for them to understand the links and connections between events, people, places, cultures and environments through time at a local and global level.  Our children will understand how their experiences are connected and how to be agents for positive change within their own and wider community.
