Green Oaks Strategy for Excellence
Our strategic aim is to build a learning community that achieves excellence for all.
We aim to achieve this through creating a collaborative culture with parents that is driven by high aspirations for all of our children.
Our shared values will define our schools and will be evident throughout our community and in everything that we do. We will create positive attitudes to learning and behaviour, where our children show resilience, inclusivity and respect.
Our strategy is be achieved through strong leadership that is reflective, solution-focussed and impact driven. Staff will hold themselves and others to account with positivity and determination. At Green Oaks, there will be a culture where feedback is valued and used to drive improvement. Professional development for staff will meet the collective needs of our schools as well as allowing personal growth and improvement.
The Green Oaks strategy for excellence will always be based on research and the self evaluation of the schools. The impact of our strategy will be continually reviewed by school leaders, Governors and the Local Authority. We will build on our successes but not be afraid to challenge outcomes, address weakness and expect excellence for all.
Self-Evaluation and Strategic Priorities
2024-2025
Each year our leadership team and Governing Body evaluate the strengths of our schools and identify opportunities for improvement against the following areas:
- The quality of education
- Behaviour and attitudes to learning
- Personal development
- Leadership and management
- Early Years provision
We carry out this evaluation using our assessment data, looking at children’s work, observing teaching and learning and talking to pupils, staff and parents. We also engage with external advisors from Hampshire County Council to support us in this evaluation process. Through this we are able to build an accurate and robust picture of how well our schools are achieving our strategic aims and ensure all of our children receive the best education possible.
Strengths of the Federation
Early Years - Children get off to an excellent start in Reception with their learning and personal development. This sets a secure foundation for pupils to build on as they move through the school. Our staff are highly trained in developing a curriculum built around the children's interests and as a result, children are highly engaged in their learning, speak confidently and love coming to school.
Reading Excellence - There is a strong emphasis on reading across both schools and children enjoy being read to, reading with and reading to others. There is a very effective phonics scheme in place and regular training for adults ensures all children make good progress and any children who may find reading particularly difficult are well supported to catch-up. Throughout their primary journey, teachers read high quality texts and share popular stories and this helps foster a love of reading to take into secondary school.
Curriculum Design - There is an ambitious and well-sequenced curricula with clear learning objectives that are built on year-on-year. The curriculum builds on children’s interests in Early Years and Year 1, and then becomes tailored in light in response to pupil feedback in other years. The curriculum supports children to connect positively with our global theme: Environment and sustainability.
Areas for Development
-
Progression of knowledge in Music, Computing and DT is ambitious and teachers are skilled to lead the learning effectively
-
Children will gain a greater understanding of how to act for a more sustainable future, at both local and global levels
- Children build a deeper connection to their own identity and personal values, developing their independence and sense of self
-
Opportunities for oracy have been reviewed and identified; children are becoming more effective speakers and listeners
Further improve our provision for higher attaining pupils in reading, writing and maths.
Support lower attaining boys in writing to make accelerated progress
- Build children’s fluency and reasoning together. Procedural fluency and conceptual understanding are developed in tandem because each supports the development of the other.
- Use of precise mathematical language to communicate their reasoning and thinking effectively
- Teachers and adults lead back and forth interaction, including questioning, short tasks, explanation, demonstration, and discussion, enabling pupils to think, reason and apply their knowledge to solve problems
