Vision, Values and Aims
Our Vision
“Great Oaks from Little Acorns Grow”
At Green Oaks we believe that learning is a life long journey of discovery, new experiences and opportunities.
We live in an evolving and ever-changing world and our learning should be relevant to our lives. Every day should be filled with happiness, excitement and wonder as we prepare for the next stage, the next challenge, the next memory.
Our vision is to inspire learning for life where children feel safe, valued and respected and have the confidence and self-belief to build the skills that they need for a bright and successful future. At Green Oaks our children learn today for life tomorrow.
Our vision is built on our core value of respect and the need to respect ourselves, each other and our future.
Our Values
“Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.” - Mahatma Gandhi
At Green Oaks our school values underpin all that we do.
They represent our beliefs on what is important to us as educators, to the children that we teach and to the school community as a whole.
Our values are embedded throughout the curriculum, our behaviours and the school environment. We teach them directly through school assemblies and our class councils, working hard to ensure that they are understood and exemplified by all.
At Green Oaks we expect all members of our school community to respect our values and treat each other with the courtesy and understanding that we all deserve.
Green Oaks Values
The Green Oaks Values form the foundations for how we act and behave towards ourselves, each other and our environment.
Our values are:
- Respect
- Equality
- Self-Belief
- Perseverance
- Excellence
- Creativity
- Team Work and Collaboration
At Green Oaks we expect all members of our community to model and uphold our values through both words and actions.
Respect
At Green Oaks we believe that we should respect ourselves, each other and our future. At school we learn with each other and from each other, accepting and respecting our differences. We listen to what each other say and respect our different ideas and opinions. We show courtesy and politeness to each other and our community.
Equality
As friends we understand one another and treat each other as equals irrespective of gender, religion, ethnicity, culture or disability. We should be able to talk about our beliefs, say how we feel and make mistakes without fear of judgement or prejudice. At Green Oaks we believe that we should value and respect our similarities and differences and teach our children to understand what it means to be part of a community.
Self-Belief
At Green Oaks we want you to feel good about yourself, be proud of your achievements and believe that you can always improve through effort and hard-work. We should have the confidence to take risks, embrace challenge and the self-assurance to solve problems and achieve our goals.
Perseverance
Learning and life are not always easy and require us to learn from our successes and also from our failures. At Green Oaks we teach children how to persevere and show resilience even when things are hard. We celebrate effort and encourage our children to support and encourage each other to persevere and take pride in all that they achieve through hard work and determination.
Excellence
At Green Oaks we believe in giving our best in all that we do. Every day we learn with and from each other, and work hard to question, investigate and acquire knowledge. We believe in a Growth Mindset and are committed to excellence and instilling the confidence to persevere without fear of failure.
Creativity
At Green Oaks we believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to learn in a creative environment that inspires you to imagine, explore ideas and concepts, make connections and think critically. Creativity of thought is encouraged and children and adults are able to explore their thinking and learning with confidence and intellect.
Team Work and Collaboration
We believe that people achieve more through collaboration. We, therefore, understand what it means to be part of a team and work together to inspire learning and achieve great things. We work as a team to be part of our wider community.
Our Aims
“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”
Michelangelo
Our school values underpin the aims of our school.
At Green Oaks we aim to create a learning community that gives children the skills they need for now and for their future. We believe that personal, social and emotional intelligence is as valuable as academic excellence and we, therefore, aim for all of our children to be happy, confident individuals who understand themselves and each other. We have high aspirations for ourselves and our children and believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and improve through education. At Oakwood and Greenfields, we are committed to ensuring the highest quality teaching and learning environments and promote a culture of collaboration and trust between staff, pupils and parents.
For ourselves: we aim for emotional security and happiness
We aim for our children to be happy and confident learners by providing a kind and caring environment, which fosters self-esteem and a sense of belonging.
For each other: we aim for respect and understanding
We aim for all our children to learn respect and develop moral values, valuing differences and having consideration for others. We recognise individual abilities, needs and differences. We aim for all our children to blossom, free from bullying and discrimination, inequality and injustice.
For our future: we aim for excellence
We aspire to high standards for all our children, and aim to provide an inspirational, global curriculum that motivates children to learn and give their best. We aim to give all our children a positive start to school and a firm foundation for learning for the rest of their lives.
At Green Oaks we give our best and aim for excellence in all that we do.
